Battle Of The Bats
Battle Of The Bats
Friday 31st of August saw a celebration of Warwickshire County Cricket Clubs 125th anniversary with a match between The Warwickshire Greatest Ever 11 and the PCA Masters.
2,000 people came in to see the game and were treated to an afternoon of great entertainment and showmanship.
Warwickshire fielded some outstanding talent including Brian Lara, Nick Knight, Dominic Ostler, Gladstone Small and Tim Munton.
Dermot Reeve won the toss and elected to bat and opened with Nick Knight and CA Cricket professional Dominic Ostler. The pair got off to a fast start with Ostler hitting Australian Ian Harvey for 20 in 1 over. Ostler uses the CA Plus 10000 bat and CA 2000 gloves and pads.
However what Ostler wasn’t prepared for was a certain Brian Charles Lara taking his CA bat straight out for his innings and on his return - said he liked the bat too much and wasn’t giving it back! Both Ostler and Lara top scored with 28 runs each.
Warwickshire ended up with an impressive 152 in their 20 overs and at this point looked in good shape.
Allan Donald rolled back the years taking 2 wickets in 2 balls. Piper and Ostler in familiar territory at Wicket Keeper and Slip some 30 yards back. Ian Harvey however got his revenge with the bat hitting a rapid 69 to take the game away from Warwickshire legends. The PCA Masters team eventually won the game with 5 wickets to spare with just 4 deliveries remaining.
